The man suspected of killing a taxi driver this week in Montreal is expected in court Friday.
Longueuil police have arrested Michel Duchaussoy, 43, who they suspect killed cabbie Ziad Bouzid in Cote des Neiges Tuesday night.
The arrest took place following an intense manhunt which saw dozens of Montreal police officers comb through the Cote des Neiges area Thursday afternoon in a search for the man, who was assumed to be armed as no murder weapon was found at the site of the killing.
Longueuil police announced that they had apprehended the man on Nobel St. Iin Boucherville, not far from the SQ police station, just prior to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The suspect did not resist arrest.
Montreal police Commander Ian Lafreniere said that police received many tips since issuing a photo of Duchaussoy, which led them to concentrate on an area around Darlington Ave. and Cote St. Catherine Rd., not far from where taxi driver Ziad Bouzid was found at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday after his taxicab crashed into a parked car.
"We've got all reasons to believe that he was in Cote des Neiges at a certain point because we received so many tips from people that had seen him in Cote des Neiges, but at the end of it, he was in Boucherville when he was apprehended," said Lafreniere.
The slain cabbie was found slumped at the wheel with head injuries not caused by the crash. He was pronounced dead upon arrival in hospital.
Denis Laramée of Diamond Taxi said that there are many unusual elements to Bouzid’s murder, including the fact that Bouzid never hit his panic button.
Bouzid's last registered client was someone who phoned from Dorval and asked for a lift.
Laramée said that most attackers hail taxis on the street and most often attack with a knife.
