One man is in police custody after leading officers from three forces on a high speed chase through Mascouche and the surrounding area.

The incident began around 2:00 a.m. when officers tried to pull over a pickup truck pulling a trailer in Mascouche. Instead of stopping the driver sped off along residential streets, eventually zipping down Highway 25 and Highway 640 before returning to Mascouche.

Police from Terrebonne and the Surete du Quebec also tried to stop the driver, who managed to avoid several nail beds before finally driving over a belt of spikes in Mascouche.

When his vehicle stopped at Chemin des Anglais and Station St. the 25-year-old man tried to escape on foot but he was promptly nabbed.

It is unclear why the man refused to stop for police in the first place.

Police say they have encountered the man before. He is expected to appear in court Thursday or Friday to face multiple charges.
