MONTREAL - A sidewalk shrine for a fallen technology pioneer spontaneously sprouted up Thursday upon news that Steve Jobs had passed away.

People expressed sadness at the Apple Store on St-Catherine.

"I think he will be remembered as a great person of our time like Da Vinci was remembered for his time," said one man.

"We've become an iSociety, we're iPeople," said another.

"The emotion we're seeing today is an indication that people bought so many Mac products, whether it's their first iPod, which led them to buy an iMac, to buy an iPhone it's clear that Apple has been successful in grabbing their attention, buying one of their products," said Elias Makos, CTV Technology columnist.

One marketing expert praised Jobs on steering Apple to an alluring branding image.

"If you use reason to appeal to someone, you might change their mind. If you use emotions, you'll change their behaviour and all his commercials have a very strong emotion. They appeal to the heart," said Harold Simpkins of the John Molson School of Business.
