BAYAMON, Puerto Rico - Ali Gerba scored twice in the second half to lead the Montreal Impact over the Puerto Rico Islanders 2-1 in USSF Second Division soccer Wednesday.

The Impact (9-10-7) are sixth in the standings with 34 points, one point ahead of Puerto Rico and three points behind the Carolina RailHawks with only four games remaining in the regular season.

"This is a very important win for us and we collected three big points," said Impact head coach Marc Dos Santos. "We battled during the whole game ... the conditions were not easy, but the players adapted well."

Down 1-0, Gerba tied the match in the 60th minute on a pass from David Testo, beating Islanders goalkeeper Bill Gaudette with a low shot from inside the 18-yard box.

Gerba then gave Montreal a 2-1 lead 15 minutes later with a powerful shot from 30 yards out that beat Gaudette in the top corner.

The former Toronto FC striker has seven goals in the last three matches to take the team lead. He also established a new club record by scoring two or more goals in a third consecutive game.
