MONTREAL - A psychiatrist has testified at Luka Rocco Magnotta's murder trial he told her he was the person behind a 2007 rumour linking him romantically to Karla Homolka.
Marie-Frederique Allard told the jury today Magnotta was seeking a certain level of notoriety by saying he was dating the convicted killer in 2007.
The forensic psychiatrist says Magnotta told her this year the Homolka rumour spread quickly and that he believed at one point she was indeed trying to contact him.
Ultimately, Magnotta admitted it was a fabrication and called the rumour a terrible decision that had a negative impact on himself and his family.
Allard is testifying for a third day at Magnotta's first-degree murder trial in the slaying and dismemberment of Jun Lin in May 2012.
Magnotta has admitted to causing Lin's death but says he was suffering from schizophrenia and was in a psychosis when it happened. The Crown contends the actions were planned and deliberate.
