With less than a month to pass a few major bills before the summer break, the Liberal government announced Monday the date of its most anticipated bill.
The budget will be tabled in just over a week, on June 4.
The PQ opposition said the Liberals are making government finances sound worse than they are, but Premier Philippe Couillard said his first budget will be reasonable.
“We've always said that it will be a mixture of appropriate and sound management of public finances and some measures that will also launch employment,” he said.
If the government chooses to make steep cuts, it will be supported by former Liberal finance minister Raymond Bachand. A report he signed states that health care costs, especially, are exploding.
The CAQ meanwhile is worried the Liberals won't stick to their pledge to lower Hydro-Quebec rates.
“He's looking like a guy who would like to do exactly as Mrs. Marois, which is to change his mind,” said CAQ leader François Legault.
