The Hudson man accused of drunk driving causing bodily harm to a pair of joggers has won his freedom until his trial begins.
Jordan Xavier Taylor, 22, is charged with ten crimes connected to the Friday evening collision on Cambridge St., including drunk driving, dangerous driving causing bodily injury, and criminal negligence causing bodily harm.
A judge ruled Wednesday he would been allowed out on $10,000 bail.
“He’s a young man with no criminal record, no pending cases, never been in trouble in his life, has a fixed address, stable family environment where he’s lived his whole life. He works, with a good job, makes a decent income. He satisfies those personal criteria and in terms of the charges, they’re serious charges and it’s a serious incident, but they’re not the most serious charges in the Criminal Code,” said defence attorney Philip Schneider.
Crown prosecutor Catherine Sheipoyan said the seriousness of the charges should have been enough to keep him in jail pending trial.
“We wanted him to stay behind bars because of the gravity of the infraction. There are two victims implicated, so there are very serious charges, serious offences. The accuse faces ten years of imprisonment,” she said
Many members of his family were in court on Wednesday to testify on his behalf during the bail hearing, but the exact nature of their testimony cannot be revealed due to a publication ban.
A Sureté du Quebec officer testified on behalf of the Crown as to why Taylor should remain behind bars.
Taylor had spent the day at a charity golf tournament at the Falcon Golf Club, and is accused of being drunk when he smashed into the two joggers, a fire hydrant and a hydro pole. His car then caught fire, but Taylor escaped injury.
Tina Adams, 20, remains in a medically induced coma with two broken legs, a broken pelvis, punctured lungs and a head injury. Alique Langlois, 24, was hurt but has been released from hospital.
