A 22-year-old man has been charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm, impaired driving and failure to stop following a car crash Friday in Hudson.
Police say just after 7 p.m., Jordan Taylor left a charity golf tournament at the Falcon Golf Club.
Taylor was allegedly drunk when he got behind the wheel of a Volkswagen Golf GTI and hit two people jogging on Cambridge St. near Wilshire St., hit a fire hydrant, smashed into a post and his car caught fire.
The club is just down the street from where the collision occurred.
Tina Adams, 20, has been in hospital ever since with severe injuries, including two broken legs, a broken pelvis, punctured lungs and a head injury. Her sister said Adams underwent surgery over the weekend but remains in a medically-induced coma.
Alique Langlois, 24, was jogging with Adams at the time. He was also hurt but has since been released from hospital. Taylor was unharmed in the crash.
Tire marks are ground into Rob Eccles’ lawn on Cambridge St. in Hudson, right where the collision occurred. He wasn’t home Friday night, but his wife Marie-Claude was.
“She just heard a huge crash and then saw the Hydro pole [fall down] and a lot of sparks and fire and ran out and saw the car,” he said.
She also saw the driver, and soon realized two joggers had been injured, one badly. She said Adams was unconscious at the scene but came to after a while.
The tournament was sponsored by the Chateau du Lac Bar on Main St. in Hudson. According to an employee, the bar had provided a shuttle bus to ferry golfers safely back to the bar. It is unclear where Taylor was headed when he left the golf club.
Taylor's lawyer Philip Schneider said the Crown covered their bases and laid every charge they possibly could.
“They've laid a charge of dangerous driving causing bodily injury, which at first glance, given the story we've heard, [is] an appropriate charge, but they've also laid the charge of criminal negligence causing bodily injury, which is far more serious,” he said.
The dangerous driving charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, whereas the criminal negligence carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.
Taylor will remain behind bars until his bail hearing Wednesday.
