MONTREAL - Canadiens' Chief Amateur Scout Trevor Timmins has survived yet another changing-of-the hockey guard, as incoming General Manager Marc Bergevin announced his contract extension Friday.

Timmins has long served with the team, helping choose such rising players as Alexei Emelin, Max Pacioretty, Carey Price, P.K. Subban, Yannick Weber and Ryan White, in several cases with late picks.

Timmins is also deemed to have made some excellent picks with the recently-held 2012 amateur draft, but only time will tell how those pan out.

Timmins has often favoured players from American universities but the team indicated that it would be scrutinizing Quebec-area rinks with a closer eye by announcing the hiring of long-time NHL sniper Donald Audette, who played briefly with the Canadiens’ near the end of his career.

Audette will serve as chief amateur scout for Quebec.

The team will also beef up its professional scouting, announcing that Mark Mowers will be chief scout for the NHL’s Eastern Conference.
