Montreal firefighters have removed stickers from their work vehicles out of respect for former Mayor Jean Doré.
They will also be wearing their standard uniforms, without any slogans, during the weekend and on Monday.
Firefighters who are on duty Monday are planning to hold a moment of silence outside of the 67 firehalls across the island, while those who are off-duty are being encouraged to attend the civic funeral being held at Montreal City Hall.
They are gestures of respect for a man whose election as Mayor ended years of strife between the union and the city.
Firefighters, like many municipal employees across Quebec, are protesting a provincial law that forced a reform of pension plans.
In addition to plastering their trucks and uniforms with stickers the firefighters rampaged through City Hall last August, storming a council meeting and hurling objects at councillors. Earlier that year firefighters stood by while protesters tossed uniforms and other items onto a bonfire outside the building.
Doré died this week after contracting pancreatic cancer. He was 70 years old.
Montreal police officers were harshly criticized for not wearing their full uniforms at former premier Jacques Parizeau's funeral earlier this month.
Police said this week they would wear regulation pants, but stick to wearing their non-regulation red baseball caps.
