Expect lots of rain in the Montreal area Sunday and Monday

Weather alerts are in effect across large parts of Quebec Sunday morning, including in Montreal and the surrounding regions.

These areas can expect 10 - 20 millimetres of rain and about five centimetres of snow Sunday into Monday.

We can expect to see rain Sunday with a high of 6 Celsius. Rain will change to snow early Monday morning, according to Environment Canada. There will be a low of 1C.

The weather agency is warning Monday morning commuters to be cautious, because the combination of temperatures gradually dropping below freezing and the change in precipitation types will cause challenging driving conditions.

The snow is expected to end late afternoon Monday as the temperature falls to -1C in the afternoon, with a wind chill of -9C.



In the Eastern Townships, Environment Canada has issued both snowfall and rain warnings. Rainfall combined with melting snow are expected, with 15 centimetres of snow and 20 to 30 millimetres of rain. Localized flooding is possible in low-lying areas with possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts. Sunday will see a high of 9C, falling to 0C overnight. It will reach -3C in the afternoon with a wind chill of -10C.

Quebec City saw a period of freezing rain early Sunday, making surfaces icy and slippery. As temperatures rise, the freezing rain is turning into rain, with 15 to 25 millimetres expected until early Monday morning. Rain will be followed by five to 10 centimetres of snow. The temperature will be steady at 5C Sunday, dropping to 2C overnight. It will hit -1C Monday afternoon, with a wind chill of -9.
