Montreal’s Eugenie Bouchard advanced to the quarterfinals of the Portugal Open Wednesday by beating Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.
The 20-year-old, 19th-world-ranked Bouchard will next play Roland Garros champion Svetlana Kuznetsova (world ranked 29), who defeated 21-year-old Spaniard Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor 5-7, 6-4, 6-1.
Italy's Roberta Vinci, the fourth seed, and the Swiss Timea Bacsinszky also advanced.
The 20-year-old Bouchard is the second seed in the women's’ singles section of the clay court tournament in Oeiras, Portugal.
