Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin has had a busy night ahead of the NHL's trade deadline.
Bergevin announced late Tuesday that the team has acquired veteran forward Steve Ott from the Detroit Red Wings in return for a sixth-round draft pick in 2018.
The trade was the second of the evening for Bergevin, who dealt forward David Desharnais to the Edmonton Oilers for defenceman Brandon Davidson earlier in the night.
The 34-year-old Ott suited up for 42 games this season with the Red Wings and registered three goals and six points.
"I'm heading to a good team with another great heritage, so it's very exciting now to know that I have a chance in the playoffs," said Ott.
Ott made his NHL debut in 2002-03 with the Dallas Stars and has since played for the Buffalo Sabres, St. Louis Blues and Wings.
In 837 career NHL regular season, Ott has recorded 109 goals and 287 points.
A native of Summerside, P.E.I, Ott was selected in the first round, 25th overall by the Stars at the 2000 NHL draft.
The 25-year-old Davidson played 28 games this season for Edmonton, recording one assist. The Lethbridge, Alta., native has five goals and 13 points in 91 career games.
Desharnais, 30, produced four goals and 10 points in 31 games this season with Montreal. Desharnais, from Laurier-Station, Que., has played 435 career games -- all with the Canadiens -- and has 79 goals and 250 points.
"I would like to thank David for all his years as a Montreal Canadien. He developed and matured within our organization providing valuable services. We wish him the utmost success with the continuation of his career," said Bergevin.
The trade deadline is Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET.
