A man in his 50s has been found dead in his SUV in Ahuntsic, and police say the death is related to the Mafia.
Police say the man was reported missing by family members on Thursday. He has been identified in media reports as Emilio Cordeleone, though police would not confirm his identity. They did say the victim is well known to police.
They say they received a tip that led to the discovery of his car at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the corner of Sauriol St. and Larose Ave.
The man was found dead.
He suffered major injuries to his upper body, but police would not say if he was injured with a firearm, knife or other weapon.
So far there are no suspects, said montreal police Const. Dany Richer.
"Major crimes unit are on the scene trying to get some evidence around the area of the car. They will be meeting some witnesses, also some neighbours - maybe (someone) has seen something," said Richer.
There have been a number of killings in Montreal in the past couple of years involving family members or associates of reputed Mafia boss Vito Rizzuto, including his father and his son.
Rizzuto, 66, served eight years in an American prison on racketeering charges and was immediately deported back to Canada upon his release in October.
This is the 33rd homicide of the year in Montreal. At this time last year, there were also 33 homicides.
