Montreal rock radio host Tootall is calling it a career.
The CHOM 97.7 announcer and veritable encyclopedia of rock music announced Wednesday he’ll be signing off for the last time on Sept. 29.
Robert "Tootall" Wagenaar has been on the air for 40 years, making him the last active announcer that got his start in CHOM’s original home in a Greene Ave. brownstone.
A longtime champion of Canadian music, Tootall spearheaded the CHOM L'Esprit band contest, showcasing local bands and helping propel their careers.
Tootall is currently hosting on CHOM from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring his signature show Made to Order over the noon hour.
"Few understand history of pop music better. Electric lunch hour was his home. He'll be much missed," said Gazette columnist Bill Brownstein in a tweet.
“Forty years into the game and his passion for music and his curiosity about new sounds, styles, and bands remain unmatched,” declared Picard, Music Director, CHOM 97 7, in an article on the radio station’s website.
