A man survived after his car was hit by a train and pushed 50 metres down the tracks.

It happened around 3 a.m. in the industrial neighbourhood east of the Trudeau Airport.

The 34-year-old driver told police he stopped at the railroad crossing on Fairway St. near 52nd Ave., looked both ways and did not see a train, and so proceeded to cross.

He was, unfortunately, wrong about the train, which hit the passenger side of his car and pushed it about 50 m down the tracks.

The man survived the low-speed impact without any injuries.

Emergency crews towed the car off the tracks, and the undamaged train continued on its journey.
