A late night street altercation between several people turned fatal after a man was stabbed to death in the upper body near de Chateaubriand and Beaubien Sunday morning at around 1:20 a.m.
The victim, a black man in his twenties who is known to police, was rushed to hospital but did not survive his wounds.
Police cordoned off the area and closed the Beaubien metro for much of Sunday while they searched for clues and attempted to interview witnesses.
The murder was the 17th in Montreal in 2013, compared to 20 at this time last year.
