Police are scouring for information after a 30-year-old man was found shot in a Plateau alleyway Monday afternoon. He later died in hospital.

Responding both to the sound of gunshots heard from the nearby police station and to 911 calls from local residents, police found the wounded man around 3:15 p.m. in an alley between St. Andre St. and De Mentana St. south of Marie-Anne St.

He was brought to hospital and declared dead Monday afternoon.

The man was shot in the upper body and it's unclear how many times he was shot, said SPVM spokesperson Simon Delorme. The victim is known to police.

Delorme said police are looking for witnesses or anyone with information related to the crime.

Anyone with information is urged to call either 911 or Info-Crime at 514-393-1133.

"If someone has heard something, maybe they can give us some clues. As of right now there's no hypothesis established," Delorme said on Monday.

This is the 21st homicide of the year in Montreal.
