A judge has renewed a court injunction barring protesters from blocking access to UQAM but not before he offered some criticism of school administrators.
Quebec Superior Court Judge Martin Castonguay noted that the original injunction, issued April 1, did little to prevent students from barricading doors on April 8, hours after 21 students were arrested.
Lawyers for the university explained that they had hoped that conflict could have been avoided and only called police after the situation got out of hand. No further disruptions would occur, they vowed.
About 20 to 30 students protested inside the De Seve Pavillon at about noon Monday, banging pots to express their opposition to the renewed injunction, which will remain in force until July 21. The demonstration ended quickly.
A few dozen protesters later took part in a subdued march in the afternoon sunshine as police watched on.
