Motorists were surprised to get an eyeful of a horse running on the highway towards Montreal early Monday morning, as the nag was spotted trotting south on Highway A25 near the 440 at 2 a.m.
Police located the horse near the A25 toll bridge to Montreal, about 1.5 kilometres south of where it was initially sighted.
Laval and Montreal police were unsuccessful in their attempts to corral the horse until a motorist, serendipitously towing an empty enclosed trailer, stopped to offer assistance.
The horse was ushered into the trailer and transported to a nearby stable.
The bridge was reopened after about a half an hour.
Police located the owner of the horse who was unable to explain how the horse bolted from its original location about 5 kilometres away.
