Funeral services took place Thursday for the Surete du Quebec officer who died in a car crash north of Montreal.

Katia Hadouchi died while responding to an emergency call in Saint-Ambroise-de-Kildare. Her car went off the road and hit two trees.

The 23-year-old officer was en route to pick up her partner before going to a home after getting a 9-1-1 call about alleged domestic abuse.

Hadouchi had served with the SQ detachment in Matawinie since May 3, 2010.

"She had her whole life in front of her. She made a lasting impression on everyone she met," said Benoit Richard of the Surete du Quebec.

Questions remain about the cause of the accident. The cruiser she was driving was the subject of a safety recall by general motors.

The so-call 'preventative recall' was to check the car's front end.

Montreal police are investigating if a mechanical failure could explain the loss of control.

The hall was reserved for Hadouchi's family from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, then SQ officers and friends and the public were allowed to pay their respects until 2 p.m.

Funeral services began at 2 p.m. at the Palace convention hall at 1717 Le Corbusier Blvd. in Laval, north of St. Martin Blvd.

Nearly 1,000 officers from across Canada and the U.S. attended the solemn service.

“The main thing is she gave her life saving lives - that's what most officers are thinking - we have to come over to pay homage to that,” said Richard.
