Fire tore through multiple buildings in Trois Rivieres overnight.

Five buildings were damaged or destroyed by the flames and smoke.

The fire started minutes after midnight at the rear of a building at St. Denis and St. Georges Sts., about 100 m east of Highway 40.

Many homes were evacuated as crews fought the fire, but were unable to prevent its quick spread.

So far it does not appear that anyone was hurt.

The Red Cross is assisting people who lost their homes, or whose residences were unsafe.
