MONTREAL--The body of a 34-year-old woman was found in the waters in Laval on Friday, a day after she slipped into the water and went missing.

The woman fell into the waters of the Riviere des Prairies around 4:30 Thursday afternoon.

She had been on a floating dock in the river, just west of Lachapelle Bridge/Route 117, when her sandals fell in. She dove in to retrieve them and never re-emerged.

Her friends tried to find her in the water but could not, so called 9-1-1 and SQ search teams picked up the hunt.

An autopsy is imminent, although police are working under the assumption the death resulted from an accident.
