The Canadiens have traded forward Travis Moen for defenceman Sergei Gonchar.

Gonchar, 40, was with the Dallas Stars, but missed the first 11 games of the season with an injured foot.

In his three games he's averaged just over 13 minutes of ice time with one assist.

It's the second trade in two years for Gonchar, who played several seasons with the Capitals, the Penguins and the Senators before joining the Stars.

Moen is in the third year of a four-year, $7.2 million contract with the Canadiens and has been with the team since 2009.

In 2007 he was part of the Stanley Cup-winning Anaheim Ducks.
