A high-speed overnight police chase down the main street of East Broughton has resulted in two injuries.

The incident began at about 2:00 a.m. near Sacre Coeur de Jesus when police pulled over a driver in his twenties.

Soon after pulling over, the young had second thoughts and speed off, leading police to follow in hot pursuit.

After about five kilometres, the driver, who was alone in his car, collided with another vehicle on Highway 112 in East Broughton.

Both drivers were injured in the collision.

Police then proceeded to arrest the young suspect, who will face a series of charges in court, including drug possession.

The road – one of the busiest in the area - was closed in both directions for some time after the accident.

East Broughton is a town of about 2,000 residents that sits about 90 kilometres south of Quebec City.
