Teachers and civil servants throughout Quebec are reiterating their pledge to hold a series of rotating strikes as of next Monday.
But instead of being affected for one day, schools may be closed for two days next week.
Unionized employees belonging to the "Common Front" have notified employers that they will begin rotating strikes next week.
Those strikes will start in rural areas in Quebec on Monday Oct. 26, and will take place in and around Montreal on Wednesday, Oct. 28 and Thursday, Oct. 29.
The Commission Scolaire de Montreal (CSDM) has been told teachers will not work on Oct. 28, and support staff will be on strike the following day.
The chair of the CSDM, Robert Gendron, informed parents Monday morning that all schools will be closed for two days as a result.
Last week teachers at Riverside board on the South Shore were promising to walk off the job on Oct. 28. Their counterparts at the English Montreal School Board (EMSB), Lester B. Pearson board, and Sir Wilfrid Laurier board are scheduled to be on strike on Thursday Oct. 29.
Civil servants are asking for a 13.5 percent pay raise over three years. The provincial government is offering a three percent hike over five years. The government also wants to push the retirement age from 60 to 62.
Roughly one million public servants in Quebec have been without a contract since March 31, 2015.
Civil servants are planning more strike days in November and December.
