Teachers with French school boards will hold a series of rotating strikes on Oct. 26, 27 and 28.
Those in Commission Scolaire Margeurite Bourgeoys will strike on the Monday. Teachers in the Lower Laurentians, Laval, and Pointe de L'Ile will walk off the job on Tuesday the 27th. Teachers in the Gatineau Valley and the Commission Scolaire de Montreal will strike on the Wednesday of that week.
Members of the FAE union (Federation autonome de l’enseignement) last walked off the job on Sept. 30 in the first of six one-day protests planned for this fall.
In a statement, the union said it was upset that not a single member of the government, nor of the opposition, has expressed support for their strike in the National Assembly since it resumed sitting.
Last week, when teachers and parents formed human chains about dozens of schools in Montreal, several MNAs took part, including Opposition leader Pierre Karl Peladeau and Quebec Solidaire MNA Amir Khadir.
Teachers are protesting changes to the school system, including a 0.2 percent increase to school funding, government demands for larger class sizes, and proposed pay hikes of three percent over five years.
Educators at the English school boards have voted in favour of six days of strike action and have said they would co-ordinate with their counterparts in the French boards, but have yet to confirm if they will participate in this series of walkouts
