Police believe speed may have been a factor in the mysterious car crash that claimed the lives of two young Laval men.

Vincent Lamoureux, 20, and Hugo Pereira, 22, were found Tuesday in an Acura submerged in the Riviere des Prairies.

The pair went missing last Wednesday after leaving a bar on St. Denis St.

It appears the roommates -- who were both aspiring firefighters -- were almost home when they decided to turn back to pick up a friend who was still at the bar.

The driver lost control as they were about to cross the Viau Bridge, and likely slammed into a cement block as it left the road, police say.

The impact sent the car flying, cutting through a Hydro wire and a fence before ending up in the river.

Police are waiting for autopsies and an inspection on the car before making any further comments.

Meanwhile, a Facebook page dedicated to Lamoureux and Pereira is being flooded with condolences.
