Major construction work takes place this weekend on the Champlain Bridge, meaning several lanes on the bridge will be closed from Friday evening to Monday morning.

On three weekends in October and November, crews will install scaffolding and support structures under the bridge so that the outer edges of the span are stronger.

This weekend all southbound lanes will be closed to traffic, and Highway 15 from the Turcot Interchange to the bridge will be closed.

The lefthand lane of Highway 15 north will also be closed.

Residents of Nuns' Island will be able to get access to their homes via Gaetan Laberge Blvd.

The closure begins at 10 p.m. Friday Oct. 2 and will last until 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5.

Future 55-hour closures will take place the weekends of Oct. 24 and Nov. 7.
