The Mayor of Quebec City is furious after hundreds of concert fans had to wait a long time to get a taxi ride.
They were Celine Dion fans who had gone to the city's new arena to watch the first of five consecutive concerts by the diva.
Regis Labeaume was among the spectators who had to wait up to two hours to get a lift home.
Labeaume said 700 taxis dropped people off before the start of the show but only half that number came to pick people up afterwards.
"I'm extremely disappointed, extremely disappointed. There was a breach of contract yesterday," said Labeaume.
"There were a lot of people who had trouble getting a cab to bring them to the arena because there were many events last night."
Those events included a fireworks festival, a beer festival, and a football game.
The standard concert capacity for the Videotron Centre is about 14,000 seats, but the Celine Dion shows have 2,000 more seats with an obscured view of the stage.
The taxi industry said it will try to have more drivers available for the rest of Dion's run in Quebec City.
Labeaume say regardless, he will discuss other possibilities, including Uber, when he meets with the new Transportation Minister Laurent Lessard this week.
"The taxi industry must furnish enough vehicles and if the industry cannot do that, we have a problem. We are not going to reduce the number of events taking place in Quebec City to accommodate the taxi industry," said Labeaume.
The mayor was careful not to condone the current operating standards of Uber, but said if a way can be found to let the company operate legally, he would be willing to support it.
