Raw emotion gripped a crowd at the courthouse Saturday afternoon as protesters met to express their misgivings over the release of Guy Turcotte before his upcoming second trial for killing his two children.

“I was very close to Annie-Sophie and Oliver and I just find that some things are not kosher, more specifically the fact that this man is out. If he was held in jail prior to his first trial, I don’t see why he’s not there now,” said Gabrielle Gaston, cousin of the children's mother Isabelle Gaston.

"We never got justice for the children and at at the end of that day that’s what matters.”

Turcotte was found not-criminally responsible for the stabbing deaths of his children in 2011. That verdict was overturned last November and two weeks ago he was released from jail.

Anne-Sophie and Olivier’s grandmother could not contain her anguish when speaking Saturday.

“I'm here for my grandchildren and I want justice done for them! They suffer enough! We suffer but never like them,” said Rachel Gaston.

The children’s uncle Patrick Gaston also argued that Turcotte should have remained behind bars pending his trial.

“I really do think because when you take life - think about it - he took the life of his children,” he said.

Isabelle Gaston did not attend due to professional commitments.
