A Montreal fire chief is asking homeowners and tenants not to store propane tanks in sheds or garages.

This comes after close to 100 firefighters rushed to the scene of a four-alarm fire on Bourbonniere Ave. near Adam St. on Monday morning.

The fire began in a wooden shed behind one of two triplexes on the property, forcing eight people to evacuated their homes.

Nobody was hurt but the residents will not be able to live at home until the damage is fixed.

The fire chief said crews found a propane tank stored in the burning shed, although the tank did not catch fire or explode.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
