MONTREAL -- A PQ candidate has apparently backtracked after posting in a Facebook exchange that she supports the idea of removing the word 'Jewish' from the Jewish General Hospital, and forbidding circumcisions and doctors or staff from wearing Hasidic curls.

The comments – made by Viau riding candidate Tania Longpré - brought on much criticism, leading Longpré to later say she wasn't thinking when she said that and supports the PQ's Charter of Values as is.

Bernard Drainville, PQ minister responsible for democratic institutions and the architect of the Charter, said her comments are not in line with the Charter and that she must now toe the government line.

“Before being a candidate she was a citizen, an individual who had freedom of speech. Now she's a PQ candidate and she must endorse, as I think she did, the policies and positions that were taken by the PQ government so far,” said Drainville.

Longpré currently teaches French to new immigrants.
