Montreal police have determined that a woman's unusual death in her apartment in May was in fact a murder.

The body of 29-year-old Nellie Angutiguluk was discovered on May 18, 2015 inside her home at 7225 Nancy St., Apt 209, after police received a 9-1-1 call.

Initially considered a suspicious death, police now believe that Angutiguluk was killed, citing evidence of violence in her autopsy.

They are asking anyone who knew Angutiguluk to come forward and tell them what they knew of her life.

"They want to try to connect with the public to see if anyone knows the history of this lady, where she was found, where she lived in the past monts and years," said Const. Abdullah Emran.

CTV News has confirmed that Angutiguluk used the services of Chez Doris, a shelter for women in downtown Montreal, and one neighbour said that he often heard yelling coming from her apartment.

A Chez Doris staff member described Angutiguluk as "always happy, in a good mood and friends with everybody that she encountered."

Montreal police are also setting up a command post in front of her apartment building on Thursday July 2 in order to spread the word and gain a better understanding of Angutiguluk.
