Police evacuated residents of a quiet section of Beaconsfield after a man phoned to say that he was armed with a firearm on Saturday afternoon at about 2 p.m.

Police rushed to the home on Sidney Cunningham between Alice Carriere and Malcolm Beaton to deal with the situation.

Montreal police representative Jean-Pierre Brabant said that the nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution and that a perimeter had been set up as police attempted to contact the man.

Later, however, police reported that the call was a false alert.

Two teens were in the house and are being questioned concerning the possibility that they made a prank emergency call.

It's not yet known whether they will face charges.
