Here are the locations of the latest Quebec measles outbreak
Quebec’s Health and Social Service Ministry is monitoring a measles outbreak in the Montreal, Laval and Laurentians regions.
Ministry spokesperson Marie-Pierre Blier confirmed that four cases have been confirmed in Quebec residents in connection with an outbreak that began in Dec. 11 in Sainte-Therese, Saint-Eustache, Deux-Montagnes, Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac, Laval and Montreal.
In addition, anyone who was on the Laurentians EXO line no. 88 or no. 9 buses on Dec. 24 should monitor their symptoms.
“According to the information available to public health, these cases are epidemiologically linked and acquired the disease in Quebec, the first case having been exposed via a person residing outside Canada who travelled to Quebec during the contagious period before being diagnosed,” said Blier.
Those who were at the locations on the map at the times noted should monitor their symptoms until mid-January.
“People who have been to one of these places (particularly those who have not been properly vaccinated) are also advised to be on the lookout for symptoms such as a high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes and general malaise, followed by rashes on the face and body,” said Blier.
Public health officials have confirmed 56 measles cases in 2024, including 51 that occurred at an outbreak at the beginning of the year.
The ministry recommends that residents check the vaccination status of family members, especially when travelling.
