A new project in Pointe-Claire means more plastic than ever can now be recycled.
Residents who store up polystyrene were able to drop it off at the Public Works Yard on Saturday.
Polystyrene is a type of plastic that isn’t picked up by most municipal recycling programs. That’s because it’s fragile and lightweight, making it difficult to transport and sort according to Steve Tramley, a recycling and sustainability expert for the Canadian Plastics Industry Association.
Pointe-Claire has another polystyrene drop-off set for Oct. 3, but if there is enough interest, they could schedule dates for all year-round.
The Ecocentre in Lasalle also accepts polystyrene drop-offs for Montreal residents.
