There isn't one square foot of the MUHC superhospital technical director Imma Franco doesn't know.
She knows every piece of equipment, every feature, and until Sunday it's been missing one thing -- people.
“We want to share this project with our community…we want to show what care people will have in this facility,” she said.
Thousands lined up for a tour of the project, curious to see what all the fuss has been about.
The construction phase of the project is done, and now the focus is on moving in.
This will be the public's last chance to see the hospital before it officially opens its doors April 26th. The Children's Hospital will be moving into the building overlooking the Turcot Yard the following month.
With bright open spaces and colours - this hospital is different than its predecessors.
And that's a good thing, according to Dr. Francine Tremblay who works at the Royal Victoria.
She says they can't wait to move in.
“It's old and now it's time to move on and time to get into modern era of medicine,” said the oncologist.
That modern era comes with operating rooms equipped with booms attached to the ceiling to free up floor space.
The single patient rooms come with private bathroom, private shower and a family space that converts into a bed should the family need to stay.
Those are new details that matter to people like Benita Vottero.
“I have a daughter with a chronic condition so we're going to be here a lot,” she said.
Prospective patients aren't the only ones who are going to have to learn their way around here.
The new facilities are designed to make medical care more integrated - which should mean less visits and shorter wait times, something that impresses nursing student Katie Kelebay.
“I thought it'd be interesting to see where I could be working one day,” she said.
And though the project hasn't been without its headaches, especially for those who live close by, Christian Emmanuel says it's worth it.
“If you want progress you have to do some sacrifices for a while. Now we see the end result and it's really encouraging,” he said.
