Several Quebec mayors are demanding a meeting with newly-appointed federal Minister of Transport Lisa Raitt to express their concerns about the rolling cargo that passes their municipalities.
The mayors of Sherbrooke, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Cowansville, Sutton, Farnham and Magog held a press conference Tuesday to express their concerns about the safety of passing trains operated by the Maine & Atlantic (MMA) Railway in the light of the Lac Megantic disaster.
Farnham city council passed a resolution last week demanding the MMA stop their trains until their safety was assured by competent inspectors.
