Well-known Quebec singer and sovereignist Luck Mervil has been charged with sexual assault on a minor in relation to events that took place in the first half of 1996 in Montreal.
Luckenson Mervil, who was 29 at the time, was in a position of trust or authority towards the teenage female victim, according to the allegations.
Mervil, 47, did not appear in court Wednesday but rather was represented by his lawyer Lori Cavaliere.
His trial is set to start on February 23.
Mervil, who is of Haitian origin, has devoted much time in recent years to helping out his homeland.
