Producer Luc Wiseman pleaded guilty on Thursday to a charge of sexual touching of a minor.

The 65-year-old man had previously waived his preliminary hearing, which was to last two days at the Montreal courthouse.

He cut the proceedings short by pleading guilty.

"You understand there will be no trial?" asked Quebec Court Judge Pierre Labelle.

"Absolutely, judge," replied Wiseman.

Arrested in May 2021, he faced five charges, including sexual assault, sexual interference and assaulting a person under the age of 16.

Two of those charges were dropped, and Wiseman was acquitted of charges of producing and possessing child pornography.

Wiseman was the president and owner of production company Avanti Groupe, which produces the popular TV show 'Tout le monde en parle,' as well as past hits such as 'La petite vie.'

He left his position because of the charges against him.

On Thursday, the prosecution and the defence jointly proposed a jail sentence of two years less a day, plus a three-year probation period.

Crown prosecutor Annabelle Sheppard noted that the victim was still experiencing serious emotional, physical and economic trauma.

"I didn't understand why he was touching my private parts," wrote the victim, who cannot be identified, in a letter read by Sheppard.

As Wiseman pleaded guilty, the victim will not have to testify.

"I would like to (...) say how much I regret the actions I committed', the producer said. "I know that these are reprehensible actions. I hope with all my heart that (the victim) can have all the necessary support (...) to help with this ordeal."

Wiseman's lawyer, Alexandre Bien-Aimé, insisted there is a very low risk of recidivism as his client has begun therapy with a sexologist and is focusing on rehabilitation.

Sentencing is expected to take place Aug. 26, at 2 p.m.

If he grants the parties' request, Wiseman's name could also be placed on the sex offender registry for 20 years.
