As controversy rages over the conduct of Lester B. Pearson schoolboard chairman Suanne Stein-Day, commissioners met behind closed doors on Saturday morning to discuss their next steps.
On Friday, a letter posted to several social media sites demanded that Stein-Day resign after CTV reported she was the commissioner found guilty of ethics violations.
Commissioners declined to comment on what was discussed in the meeting and media waiting outside were told to leave the premises.
A report obtained by CTV showed Stein-Day contravened three articles of the board’s code of ethics on three separate occasions. Complainants accused her of “slanderous and libelous remarks” and of abusing her power.
Other documents showed tax payers were billed for more than $80,000 for legal fees involved in the ethics investigation, with sources saying most of the charges relate to Stein-Day’s legal expenses.
Stein-Day could not be reached for comment and previously had said she could not discuss the issue due to a confidentiality order.
The schoolboard is scheduled to meet on Monday night, the first meeting since the results of the commissioner’s investigation were revealed.
