LAC-MEGANTIC--Four more bodies were discovered Thursday as police raised the death toll from the Lac-Megantic train tragedy to 24 people and publicly identified a victim for the first time.
A state of emergency remained in effect as 600 residents returned home on Thursday, when the coroner's office publicly identified 93-year-old Eliane Parenteau as a victim of the fatal train accident.
At least another 26 people are missing and officials expect the death toll to reach 50 with the missing presumed dead.
Up to 1,800 residents have now returned home, with 200 still homeless.
Surete du Quebec director Mario Laprise called the disaster a "catastrophic," "unprecedented disaster" in Quebec's history. The SQ still had to investigate at least 50 percent of the disaster zone with the last 50 percent the most difficult.
Police also said a 53-year-old man was arrested for attempting the perimeter that had been set up by investigators. The person was not identified except to say they were not a resident of the region.
A driverless train derailed in the small town of 6,000 in the morning hours of Saturday, causing the fatal accident.
