30,000 people are expected at Ile Soniq's inaugural electronic music festival taking place this weekend in Park Jean Drapeau.

In the midst of the fun there are some serious concerns, with concert promoters say they are taking a rash of drug overdoses at other summer events seriously.

Two people died at the Veld music festival in Toronto while 13 more were hospitalized because they were using drugs that had been mixed with other substances.

Last weekend a 24-year-old Alberta woman died of a drug overdose at the Boonstock festival in Penticton, B.C.

Montreal concert promoters evenko say they always have medical staff on hand when concerts are taking place.

"We always have a team of specialized medicare, always," said Evelyne Coté. "We're taking even the double the precautions for this and we do have a team that's going to be reaching out to kids that seem like they need help and we're very much aware of that."

GRIP Montreal, (Group for Research and Psychosocial Intervention) will also have a booth at the festival where they will be warning would-be drug users of the inherent dangers involved in using drugs that are frequently mixed with other substances.

A pharmacist will also be at Ile Soniq to answer questions.
