It’s hunting season in Quebec and 300 unionized provincial workers are shooting for better contracts, as the staff at 14 Quebec wildlife reserves have gone on strike.

The employees are hoping to bag a raise, as the current average salary sits at $14.

Management has vowed to keep the reserves open and maintain services.

Wildlife reserves affected by the strike are:

Anticosti

Ashuapmushuan

• Chic-Chocs

Laurentides

La Verendrye

Controlled Zone

Matane

Papineau-Labelle

Port-Cartier-Sept -Îles

Port- Daniel

Portneuf

Rimouski

Red-Matawin

Saint-Maurice

About 750 big game hunters are expected to be at the reserves this weekend, several hundred on Anticosti Island alone.

The strikers are part of the SFPQ, an independent Quebec union of around 42,000 members.
