The offices of CTV Montreal were awash in emotion Wednesday, as veteran reporter and anchorman Herb Luft worked his final day.
He retires after 44 years as a newsman, 39 of those at CFCF/CTV.
"39 years go by pretty quickly," says Herb. "What a ride!"
In the days leading up to his departure, everyone told stories about Herb, and the pleasure of working with him.
"Herb has been one of the great contributors to building this station into the respected landmark it is today," says News and Public Affairs Director Jed Kahane.
Herb is known as a source of endless information about city affairs, a tireless professional, and a truly kind and pleasant person.
"By my quick count, give or take a few thousand, he's cranked out around 10,000 stories in his time at CF, and done it without losing his passion for telling a good story, and telling it right," added Kahane.
Everyone was in full agreement that he will be sorely missed, and always welcomed back.
During his last day on the job, Herb was as gracious and humble as he was throughout his career.
"It's been an honor to be invited into the viewers' living rooms all these years, and I just want to say thank you"
And thank you, Herb, for all you have shared with us, your co-workers and fans!
Hats off to you, Herb Luft!
