MONTREAL—A group of little league baseball players have given “The Kid” an inauguration to be proud of.
Gary Carter Stadium, named in honor of the former Montreal Expos Hall of Fame catcher who died last year, was officially opened on Saturday.
Carter’s wife Sandy and his daughter Christy threw out the first pitches at the stadium in Ahuntsic Park, where former Expos teammate Warren Cromartie and Montreal Mayor Michael Applebaum were in attendance.
Carter died of brain cancer in February 2012 at the age of 57.
The city is also planning to name a portion of Faillon Street near the Uniprix Stadium at Jarry Park after the former catcher, who played for the New York Mets during a 21-year Major League Baseball career.
