Guy Turcotte will know the date of his new trial next month.
Turcotte, who admitted to killing his two young children, was originally found not criminally responsible for the killings three years ago.
Crown prosecutors appealed the decision, saying the judge in the case made errors that required a new trial.
Last November, the Quebec Court of Appeal overturned the 2011 jury verdict and ordered a second trial on two counts of first-degree murder.
Turcotte’s lawyers tried to appeal that decision to the Supreme Court, which declined to hear his case, thereby setting the stage for Turcotte to should stand trial again.
The former cardiologist is currently detained.
The date of his new trial is expected to be determined May 9.
His second trial would likely begin in 2015 and last three months.
