A misogynistic writer from the U.S. has arrived in Montreal despite an online campaign to keep him out of Canada.
Daryush Valizadeh, better known by his pseudonym Roosh V, is known for giving lectures on how to pick up women.
He has written several books on the topic and actively writes and gives lectures that are described as offensive and degrading towards women.
After learning about his planned lecture in Montreal, three women began a campaign to stop his entry into the country.
Aurelie Nix, Fannie Gadouas and Sara Toulson set up a petition and have been gathering supporters to deny his entry, and the pressure convinced the hotel that was supposed to host his event to cancel it. More than 27,000 people have signed the petition, but Valizadeh tweeted Friday that efforts to keep him out had failed.
To the 18,000 people who wasted their time signing & spreading a petition to deny me entry into Canada: you failed. pic.twitter.com/S2MUeR4ZEc

He has launched an aggressive counter attack against those three women and journalists who have written about his planned appearance. On his website Valizadeh asked his followers to create false social media accounts in order to swamp Facebook with complaints, to spread disinformation about any events taking place, and to find private information including phone numbers, their home addresses, and the names of any relatives.
It seems to have worked, as Valizadeh's forum is now filled with threats and highly offensive comments against those who denounced him in the first place.
Nix and others said they have been subject to death threats online. Legal experts say the blogger is walking a fine line between free speech and hate speech, but his tactics against his critics are clearly illegal.
In the interim Valizadeh said he has found a new location to host his lecture, and said ticket holders will be notified at the very last minute which hotel they have to go to in order to prevent protesters from disturbing his event.
