A 30-year-old woman is in hospital after a stabbing in a hotel room in downtown Montreal Thursday night.

Montreal police (SPVM) received a 911 call at 11 p.m. about the incident in a hotel on Sainte-Catherine Street near Clark Street.

"A conflict would have escalated between the victim and the suspect in the hotel room and the suspect would have injured the victim with a sharp object," said Caroline Chèvrefils, a spokesperson with Montreal police. "He would have fled the scene before police arrived."

The woman was transported to the hospital with injuries to her lower body.

Chèvrefils notes her injuries are not considered life-threatening.

There have been no arrests, and investigators are on site to determine the events leading up to the incident.
